The Clean Energy Council has released the Solar Power Australia 2012 report, an update on the solar PV industry over the last 12 months by leading consultants Solar Business Services and SunWiz.
Some of the key points are:
- 859MW of solar PV was installed in 2011, double 2010
- total cumulative installed capacity reached 1.29GW at the end of 2011
- 2012 YTD installations in excess of 450MW at August
- residential sales continue to dominate installations at > 95% of the market
- at current installed capacity, PV represents 3.2% of all current generation capacity
- approximately 17% of suitable housing stock is now fitted with PV
- an estimated 15,550 people were directly and indirectly employed in the PV industry in 2011
- more than 50% of system buyers earn less than $100,000 p/a and more than 25% earned less than $65,000 p/a.
