Three months left to receive the full solar power rebate.

Rebates for solar power will start to reduce on the 1st January 2017.

For all solar power systems the number of small-scale technology certificates created per system is based on its geographical location, installation date, and the amount of electricity in megawatt hours (MWh) over the deemed life of the system which is 15 years. This rebate is claimed upfront.

In line with the Renewable Energy Target Regulations this will be phased out by 2030. As of January 2017 the amount of electricity produced by the system will be calculated over 14 years and then in 2018 calculated over 13 years etc.

For example:

  • In 2016 a 5kW generates 103 STC’s giving customers a $3811 rebate
  • In 2017 a 5kW will generate 96 STC's giving customers a $3552 rebate

The price increase for a 5kW system will be $259 as of January 2017.

For eligible solar hot water and air source heat pumps small-scale technology certificates are based on the life of the system, calculated at 10 years. In line with the regulations rebates on these systems will start to reduce as of January 2022 until they are phased out completely by January 2031.
