One of the simplest and immediate impacts we can have is simply to make use of lower electricity rates by using power outside of peak times. Setting appliances that you use everyday like the dishwasher, washing machine and pool pump can all be set to run after 10 pm to make use of the much cheaper off peak rates.

Customers with advanced meters and time of use tariffs pay different amounts for their electricity over three different time periods – Peak, Shoulder and Off Peak.

Prices are cheaper in Off Peak and Shoulder periods – that’s 82% of the time (there is no peak period on weekends and public holidays), and more expensive during peak periods. Aim to use off peak rates as much as possible and avoid peak rates when you can.
